The founders Emi and Mathieu, met through coffee championships and wanted to create a community where people can enjoy specialty coffee at its best.

MAME was born in 2016 and named after the Japanese word for ‘beans’. The reference to Japanese culture reflects a deep dedication to specialty coffee and a fascination with its craft.

The coffee championships have been both the starting point and an ongoing journey for MAME—a way to keep learning, push boundaries, gain knowledge, and build friendships.

EMI FukaHORI

Born in Japan and now based in Zurich, Emi co-founded MAME with the dream of creating a space to celebrate the beauty of specialty coffee. In addition to competing and coaching championship contenders, she travels the world, sharing her passion for brewing and coffee extraction.

MATHIEU THEIS

Born in France and now calling Zurich home, Mathieu co-founded MAME with the belief that specialty coffee could transform lives—just as it did for him. Always in search of exceptional green coffee to roast at MAME, he is also dedicated to growing the MAME community in Switzerland and beyond.

MAME has been on the world stage since 2015, reaching the finals since 2018, and this exciting journey continues.

In 2020, we began sourcing and roasting our own coffees, striving for the perfect balance in espresso roasts and juicy vibrancy in filter roasts. Each coffee is carefully selected, thought through, and mapped onto our flavour wheel to ensure the best possible taste experience.
