We are very excited about our first Ethiopian direct trade and organic this year.

The coffee is very floral for being a Natural process. You can expect Orange blossom, Stone fruit like Apricot and a creamy texture.

Few words about the farm and the region. Koromii is situated just a few minutes walk from the Sookoo Group’s “Suke Kuto” drying facility. The Sookoo Group is managed by Ture Waji who is a local to the Shakisso woreda and expert in local agronomy and permaculture.

Most of the farms are situated in a dense forest with a large canopy of old growth forest trees above. Below this are other smaller shade trees and some mixed
crop farming including Enset (false banana) and other food crops amongst the coffee trees. In every corner of the farms there are wild plants and heirloom flowers that maintain the original bio-diversity of the old forest. As trees die off they are left to re-nourish the soil from which they came. This maintains the ecosystem that controls insects and reduces the spread of fungus.

Second we are really excited about the traceability of the varietals. As you may know very often when describing Ethiopian varieties, it is written Heirloom which means mix or blend. In this case we know the varieties JARC 74110 & JARC 74112.

Variety 74110 was selected from an original “mother tree” in the Bishari village, Metu Province, Illuababora zone, Oromia region. After researching its resistance to coffee berry disease and overall yield, JARC (Jimma Agricultural Research Center) released the variety in 1979. 74110 trees are short and compact, with small leaves, cherries, and beans.

Variety 74112 also originates in the Metu-Bishari forest and was similarly released in 1979 for its disease resistance and yield potential. Its trees, too, are small and compact. Both varieties grow well in climates similar to those where the original mother trees grew.

Finally, the coffee has been dried between 24 to 28 days and taken off when the moisture content is 10-10.5%.
